Read: Mark 16: 1-8
I can’t even begin to understand the unimaginable grief that the three women were experiencing as they approached the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus. They had been there on Friday when Jesus was crucified, and Mary Magdalene had watched as Jesus’s body was placed in the tomb. Then grief changes to fear upon finding the tomb empty except for the young man in a white robe who assures them, “Do not be alarmed, you are looking for the Jesus of Nazarene who was crucified. HE HAS RISEN.” Now, at this point in the story, I would expect a celebration of some sort, but instead the women fled the tomb and told no one.
The words “He has risen” contain the promise of Easter for all of us. Let us be joyful and celebrate this promise.
Pray: Heavenly Father, you have given your Son to die for us with the promise, “He has Risen.” Help us to celebrate that promise and to share the joy and the message of Easter by how we live our lives every day.
