Read: Mark 7:24-37

Jesus is looking for time alone when He meets a woman whose daughter is possessed with an evil spirit. She pleads with Jesus to drive out the demon.  Jesus’s initial response seems like a “No,” but the women persists, and Jesus rewards her persistence and faith by healing her daughter.

Has life ever stopped you cold? Challenged your faith? Were you able to pray with persistence for God’s guidance and help?

Life confronts us with heartache, illness, upheaval, betrayal, and regrets. It’s so easy to sink into despair and challenge God’s love and presence in our lives. Our God is a compassionate and loving God and His non-answer to our pleading and prayers should never lead to excuses for not looking for answers through faithful persistent prayer.

“Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.” (“Unanswered Prayers,” Garth Brooks)

Pray with me: Father, there are times that I am so angry with you because of things that happen in my life. Help me to remember that you are a loving compassionate God and you always are listening to my pleas. You have my back and I only need to listen closer for your answer. Help me to rely on your answer to my prayers and not mine. Help me to be faithful and persistent in my prayer. Help me to pray expectantly and with patience.
